Ακόμα και ως ψαράκι medical F1 ρολόι ήμουν ο άτιμος. Ζήτω το handover!

Φέτος πρωτού πάω σπίτι, περνάω από τους θαλάμους και διώχνω τους Φ1. Η ατάκα που τους λεώ είναι:

1. nobody appreciates you staying late

2. Once you stay late the nurses think that you will always stay late

3. Some bad people will say you have a time managment issue.

What would you say to a junior who would asked you to assist at theatres on your on calls even if he is not supposed to be working?

And what would you say to someone who would say that hes doing an audit etc?

I think surgeons appreciate much more someone who is staying late for educational purposes.

Difficult questions I am afraid.

1. If he comes to theatres on his free time, then I would give him staff to do. I respect that.

2. I respect equally someone who stays back to do an LP, pleural tap etc

But what I strongly discourage is staying back in order to do TTOS, rewrite drug charts and prescribe laxatives.

Ε, μα και βέβαια θα μείνουν πίσω για να τα κάνουν αυτά αφού

1) γίνεται σφαγή για το ποιος θα τα πρωτοκάνει για να γίνει signed off επομένως σιγά μην πει "τώρα πήγε 5 φεύγω" όταν του τύχει ένα LP/tap etc,

2) αν και δεν έχω κάνει σχεδόν καθόλου χειρουργική (οι 4 μήνες λάντζας ως Φ1 δε μετράει) δε ξέρω κατά πόσο ως junior έχεις χρόνο μέσα στην ημέρα να πας στο χειρουργείο οπότε μου φαίνεται λογικό να χρειάζεται να πας out of hours to get your numbers right. But that's out of my field, so no further comments.

Οπότε Αντρέα μου δεν το κάνουν από την καλή τους την καρδιά, αλλά επειδή δεν έχουν επιλογή αφού περιμένει το ΑRCP στη γωνία.

Αυτό έλεγα κι εγώ στους ρετζιστράδες μου, αλλά μου δίναν δυστυχώς stuff to do και όχι νέες ωραίες staff to do...

Με τον τρόπο που λειτουργεί το χειρουργείο στην Αγγλία, είναι πολύ καλύτερο να έρθεις απλά σε κάποιο day off παρά να πας out of hours να χειρουργήσεις... Παίζει πολλή κακία από όλο το staff που θέλει να την κάνει μια ώρα αρχύτερα για ύπνο...

Θα ήθελα να κάνω ψυχιατρική στην Αγγλία. Το αγροτικό μου θα μπορούσε να περάσει ως FY2, δηλαδή μόνο μια απλή μετάφραση μετράει? Έχω καταμπερδευτε. Έχω διαβάσει σε προηγούμενο ποστ πως χρειάζεται κάποιο clinical attachment ή λόκουμ ως προυπηρεσία, και μετά αιτήσεις για core training στην ψυχ. Το fy2 δεν χρειάζεται? Αν ναι, πως κάνω την αντιστοιχία αγροτικού-ΦΥ2?

Έχω κανει παθολογία και αγροτικό εδώ στην Ελλάδα.

Internal medicine and Aggrotikko count as FY2 (either on its own or combined. No benefit of having more than the absolute minimum of experience needed to justify FY competencies).

You can apply for FY2 if you want to (no jobs in CT psych..temporary insanity?), but you are actually eligible for CT1 in psych.

This year everyone who applied to CT1 psych got an interview.

Due to lack of candidates and poor competition locum/attachment are no longer an absolute prerequisite in order to land an interview/ job in CT psych.

New Ways of Working practically killed psych...

There is a 7:1 competition for reg jobs and 20:1 competition for psych consultant jobs.

The MRCPsych is in 4 parts, each part has a pass rate of about 30%....do the math(!)

Psych is full of failed GPs and medics...foreigners...they can do little to improve the prestige of the specialty to med students/FY docs. Everyone else (surgeons, medics) do all they can to change the minds of those who are actually considering it.

Απλά ρωτάω πως θα πρέπει να μεταφράσω-μεταφέρω το "αγροτικό" μου στους Άγγλους αν μου ζητήσουν χαρτιά ως προυπηρεσία.

You NEED to have FY2 competencies, but this does not mean that you need to complete an FY2 year in the UK.

You can achieve FY2 competencies either by working for a year as an FY2 and completing the relevant WPBAs

OR

By working in Greece for a year and getting a greek consultant (Epiimelitis & above) to sign a form that you have achieved said competencies ( have a look around…I am not sure where to find one of those but it shouldn’t be hard to locate).

You are absolutely right, that bit is not clear and shall be amended in future verisons of the guide.

Γεια, έφαγα τα μάτια μου , από τη σελ. 50 και μετά..#πρόσεξα το ποστ σου στο #1172, αλλά δεν καταλαβαίνω τι πρέπει να δώσω στον επιμελητή να γράψει, ώστε να θεωρηθεί ο 1 χρόνος παθολογία και 1,5 χρόνος αφροτικό ως FY2 για να πιάσω θέση ψυχιατρικής CT. Αυτές τις forms που θα τις βρω? Αρκεί η προυπηρεσία μου , τα έγγραφα μεταφρασμένα? Πήγα και στο site http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/foundationtraining/foundation-programme-competences.shtml, αλλά πάλι χάθηκα...

please, help!!

Δεν το έχω κάνει, αλλά πριν περίπου 10-11 χρόνια οι anatomy demonstrators που είχα ως φοιτήτρια μας έκαναν μαθημα ανατομίας σε small group teaching sessions. Δηλαδή είχαμε ένα folder for every system and we were going through the questions on each chapter. They were trained themselves on teaching methods and basically everything (teaching material) was ready made for them by the faculty. All they had to do was deliver it to us and facilitate the sessions that were following the lectures. In my time we spent 0 hours in the prosectorium (throughout the years); it may be different in your case (which I sincerely hope).

From colleagues who did this later on (usually for 6 months if I remember right) it was a bonus on their CV due to the teaching experience they were getting and they had more time to prepare for the surgical exams (it was a good preparation for that too). The other 6 months some locumed and some went abroad.

My impression oveall is that it's a good rotation to do. Obviously, if you are offered a post with a training number it's even better.
