Intel Anti -Theft Technology - PC Protection for Notebooks

Offering a robust set of security hardware and software building blocks, notebook PCs with Intel Centrino 2 with vPro™ technology now have innovative Intel Anti-Theft technology - PC Protection (Intel AT-p) built in. Intel AT-p for notebooks provides the option to activate hardware-based client-side intelligence to secure the PC and its data in the event the notebook is lost or stolen.

Activating via your choice of security software vendors (ISVs) or service providers, hardware-based Intel AT-p for notebooks provides local, tamper-resistant defense that works like a poison pill that disables the computer even if the operating system (OS) is reimaged, a new hard drive is installed, or the notebook is disconnected from the network. Over time, this capability may assist as a preventive theft deterrent.

Built-in protection and reactivation

Intel AT-p includes hardware-based detection mechanisms that can recognize potential loss or theft. When a suspicious situation is identified, Intel AT-p will activate according to your IT policy in "theft mode". As a completely flexible engine, Intel AT-p allows you to specify which detection mechanism should be used to assert theft mode and what actions to take. When the notebook returns to its rightful owner, it can be reactivated to full functionality via a pre-configured pass phrase or token generated by the IT console.
