As a result of a national shortage of A&E doctors we are looking at alternate ways of attracting and recruiting emergency medicine Middle Grades, Senior SHOs and Consultants. This includes expanding our reach into the EU and trying to develop relationships with the Medical Associations, Medical Universities and Teaching Hospitals in the hope that you may be aware of some doctors who would be interested in working in London for a 2 year fixed term contract?

I work for the North West London Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages three hospitals in the North West London are (Northwick Park, St Marks and Central Middlesex). We care for more than half a million people living across Brent and Harrow as well as patients from all over the country and internationally at St Marks our specialist hospital for bowel diseases. This makes us one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the capital.

We employ more than 4,300 doctors, nurses, therapists, scientists and other health professionals as well as administrative and support staff, making us one of the largest employers locally. We are also a major centre for undergraduate and postgraduate education – teaching many nurses, doctors and other health professionals each year. Our principal partners are Imperial College London and Thames Valley University.

We have an excellent reputation for successfully recruiting senior SHOs and training them to become Middle Grades and also advancing the skills of existing Middle Grades. We would like to continue this training programme by adding 10 more posts to our A&E department, which would bring our Middle Grade team of doctors up to 28.

We will put all of our doctors through a full ATLS, ALS, EPLS/APLS, HMIMMS and Level 1 ultrasound courses (the majority of which we provide on-site), and all of our Middle Grade doctors will have a minimum of two hours per week protected teaching time. During the first three months of employment this will be up to six hours per week of protected training time.

Until the doctor is proficient at middle grade level, they will be rostered along with another middle grade doctor. They will be on a band 1A ‘middle grade’ roster which includes an rota supplement of 50% of the doctors salary. Every roster has a maximum 48 hours working week, a 1:4 weekends and a 1:8 nights. Annual leave is not built into the roster, but is flexible, and all of our doctors are entitled to (and encouraged to take) study leave for appropriate training.

We are also recruiting a small number of junior clinical fellows for those who are not yet at senior SHO level, and staff grades for those with significant Emergency Medicine experience.

I´m attaching a job advertisment hoping you might be able to publish it on your website.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Dominika Hladunska
